Well, I'm settling in to my new job and today my boss showed me an old third-party app they have which shows a dashboard of bar charts outlining the companies progress. It's a nifty little program that lets you drill down into the data and choose different graph types. They wanted to do a face-lift on the graphs, add a little more functionality, and make it web-accessible so it could be viewed remotely. It didn't take me long to sell him on the charting package built into Flex 3 Professional.Flex has been on my list of want-to-learns for a long time, but I've never really had the chance. I can't wait to get started, and I know Flex with be perfect for this.
In other news, there are some really cool examples of Flex charting stuff over at Ely Greenfield's blog.
Kick butt sample of all kinds of graphs complete with source code:

That is really the best way to get started. Management does not want to hear about new technology unless it solves a real world problem. I did the same in my workplace and have had free Reign with it since a successful project was finished. After this project try and keep learning!
